Added Carniolan Queen from KF Bees in St. Thomas
May 5
I added a new queen yesterday- a sweet Carniolan from KF Bees in St. Thomas. I was worried that the weather would be too cool and the workers wouldn't protect her and keep her warm. I was worried that I put the queen in her cage too far away from the cluster of bees on he honey from at the far east end of the hive.
I went in today to make sure she was still alive. She was covered with bees, the hive was very quiet - not agitated, nor buzzing at all. They barely looked at me. None flew out.
8C. Cloudy day, currently sunny
Added 2 600mL syrup

Checked again- still a good covering of bees over her. No one seems to be eating the Pollen or taking the sugar syrup.

Picked up Nuc at Munro Honey and installed them. I sting on my butt!
One of the girls walked me home, but otherwise all good.
They started to forage and were bringing in pollen next day.
Still feisty enough to bop Mike in the nose until he left the apiary.
Scheduled inspection tomorrow. Both hives.

Took a peek into the old hive. Still calm. No building out. Lots of wonky comb, not a lot.
She's still in her cage, maybe the entry is blocked by a dead nurse.
Still alive though.
They are not taking any pollen, but have drunk 1/2 bottle of syrup with Honey B Healthy.
I got some advice that I should pop open the Queen Cage and release her.
First drone spotted.
More Yellow Jackets around.
We opened the cap to release the Queen on 5/20.
